Judie Ann Peterson, 58, dedicated elementary school teacher, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died on Thursday, July 24, 2008. Services were held July 29 at the Winslow LDS Chapel, with interment following that afternoon in Snowflake. Judie was born on May 13, 1950, in Winslow. She was proud to be a native Arizonan and lifelong Win-slow resident. She studied at both Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University, where she received her master’s degree in elementary education. During her 30-year tenure with the Winslow Unified School District, she taught first, second, third and fourth grades, believing that it was important for elementary teachers to change grade levels and to face new challenges. Judie approached her work with dedication, deep devotion to her students and was an inspiration to her colleagues. She was aware of her influence in the lives of young children and strived continually to be a good example to her students. She retired from teaching in 2004. Judie was an active member of P.E.O Chapter N, and held many offices in that organization. She en-joyed playing casual bridge with friends, and was a member of a local women’s book club, where she shared laughs and stories with other women. She also loved her collections, her needlework and her cooking. Survivors include her husband Bert of 40 years; two children, daughter Sativa (Liam) and one beautiful granddaughter Emerson, and son Julian (Ryan); her sister Jan and brother Tom (Kathleen); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by one brother, Steven; and by her parents, Ralph and Thelma Harris. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
