JR Pollard, 77, died in his sleep at his home in Lakeside on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at Elks Lodge No. 2809, located at 1775 E. Maple St. in Globe. He was born on Sept. 6, 1930, in Clayton, Okla., to Elmer and Alice Pollard. JR moved to Arizona in 1950 when he began working for the Magma Mining Company in Superior, retiring in 1978. He then spent the next 20 years of his life enjoying his kids and grandchildren, splitting his time between his homes in Queen Valley and Lakeside. JR was a humble, hardworking, honest, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca (Russell) Ortiz of Chandler; two sons, William (Arlinda) Walker of Tucson and William “Butch” (Debbie) Pollard of Miami, Okla.; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his four-legged constant companion, Hunter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn on July 9, 2007, and his parents. Owens Mortuary of Show Low is in charge of the arrangements.
