Sunrise Run/Walk Is Planned August 16 At Petrified Forest

Petrified Forest National Park will host a 5K/10K Sunrise Run/Walk at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.  The Petrified Forest Museum Association will sponsor the event.  
    The run/walk will offer participants a rare opportunity to enjoy the park at sunrise, before the regular opening hours of the park. The run will follow the section of park road that passes through the Painted De-sert. The beautiful colors of the Painted Desert come alive in the early morning hours and temperatures are cooler at that time.   
    Participants may register in advance by downloading and printing out the registration form found at www.nps.gov/pefo/planyourvisit/sunrise-fun-run.htm and mailing the form to Petrified Forest Museum Association, Attention: Sunrise Run/Walk, P.O. Box 2277, Petrified Forest National Park, Ariz. 86028.  
    The registration fee is $15 through Aug. 2, and $20 thereafter. Registration includes a T-shirt and a ticket for a drawing for items donated by Petrified Forest Museum Association, including a Petrified Forest National Park serigraph.
    Only registered participants of the Sunrise Run/Walk will be permitted into the park before regular business hours. Late registration and sign-in will begin at 4:30 a.m. at the entrance gate to the park at Inter-state 40 exit 311. The run/walk will start at 5:30 a.m.  
    The event is a collaborative effort by Petrified Forest Museum Association, Petrified Forest National Park, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Puerco Valley Fire and EMS.
