Winslow 4 Liberty Encourages Citizens To Become Informed

February 10th, 2010

There is a growing national movement of individuals who believe that the United States government has exceeded its constitutional authority, and who have chosen to organize and speak out.
These groups have different names, but a common goal of informing the public of our Constitutional laws and returning America to the intentions of our founding fathers.
“We want to bring the rule of law back to the Constitution,” stated Sydnie Martin, coordinator for Winslow 4 Liberty, a non-partisan organization. “Our motto is that we don’t have to agree on everything, just the Constitution.”
As part of the Campaign for Liberty movement started by Texas Congressman Ron Paul, groups such as Liberty 4 Winslow have formed to encourage citizens to become informed on how our local, state and federal governments are operating.
The non-partisan group makes it clear that it supports individuals, not political parties. “People get kind of leery, not being sure if we’re truly non-partisan, but once they see it’s true, we see more and more people participating,” stated Martin, who estimates that as many as 100 people attend the monthly meetings held in Winslow.
“We avoid the same old Democrat versus Republican arguments and focus on the Constitution and try to put that across. It’s an American thing. If people educate themselves and understand the Constitution, we can work to ensure liberty for ourselves and our children,” stated Martin.
The group participates in the Tea Party Movement, which protests an increase in the national debt as a result of the stimulus package, bailout funds paid to banks and other government spending.
“We have a tea party that is planned for April 15 this year. We did this last year at the old Basha’s parking lot and had a terrific response. We had people honking horns from the freeway; it was a lot of fun,” stated Martin.
Winslow for Liberty meets at 6 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month. The meeting locations vary, but the next meeting will be held on Feb. 25 at Mojo’s Cafe, located at 1700 North Park Drive. For more information on Winslow 4 Liberty, contact Martin at winslow4liberty@yahoo.com.
