Four More Potential Candidates For County Offices Are Noted

February 5th, 2010

By Tammy Gray-Searles
Four more citizens have picked up petitions to circulate as potential candidates in the upcoming Navajo County primary election.
Navajo County Elections no longer requires potential candidates to sign out election packets, therefore, a list of individuals having requested packets is not available. Candidates are required, however, to return a campaign financial document prior to collecting signatures, and a list of individuals having returned the appropriate document is available.
The latest candidates, as of Feb. 2, include Valerie Wyant (D) for Clerk of the Superior Court; Michael E. Bloomer (R), Constable Precinct No. 5; Jack L. Young, Justice of the Peace, Precinct No. 1; and Fred L. Peterson, Justice of the Peace, Precinct No. 3.
Other offices up for election this year include Superior Court Judge Division I, as well as constables and justices of the peace for all six precincts. No one has returned paperwork for Precinct No. 4 Constable.
The primary election will be held on Aug. 24, a week earlier than usual, due to new legislation.
A campaign finance workshop for prospective candidates has already been held in Northern Arizona, but information on other workshops throughout the state is available at http://www.azsos.gov/cfs/Campaign_Finance_Workshops.htm, or by calling Nancy Read at (602) 364-1562 or Maritza Leyva at 364-4855.
Election packets can be requested now. The period for filing completed packets is April 26 to May 26. Candidate packets can be obtained online at www.navajocountyaz.gov/elections or in person at the Navajo County Elections office. For more information, call (928) 524-4062 or (800) 668-3867, option 3.
