Two Write-In Candidates Qualify For Upcoming County ElectionsJuly 30th, 2008
By Linda Kor Two individuals qualified as write-in candidates for the upcoming Navajo County elections before the July 24 deadline. Lorenzo Yazzie, a Democrat, will be running for constable of Precinct No. 4, which includes Kayenta, Piñon and Hard Rock. He will be running against Christopher Claw, who is also a Democrat. Michele Baker, a Republican, will be running for the position of county recorder. She faces no opposi-tion in the primary, but will square off with incumbent Laurette Justman, a Democrat, in the general elec-tion. The names of neither Yazzie nor Baker will appear on the primary election ballots, but they will be of-ficial write-in candidates. Early voting begins today (July 30), with voter registration for the primary elections slated to close on Monday, Aug. 4. The primaries will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
