Holbrook School District May Have To Revise Its Early Release ScheduleJuly 25th, 2008
With recent changes in the requirements of student attendance, Holbrook School District officials are forced to consider revising the district’s early release schedule on Fridays. School officials recently learned of the changes that will be implemented beginning with the 2008-09 school year with regard to the way student absence is reported to the Arizona Department of Education. What used to be reported in minutes will now be reported by absences. The new reporting procedure changes the interpretation of required instructional time. High school stu-dents will now have to be present for 60 minutes for each of four periods daily in order to be counted for a full day of attendance. Previously, high schools could consider students present if they attended at least four instructional peri-ods a day and their total minutes of attendance averaged 240 per day. Starting this school year, high school students must attend 240 minutes every day. The district governing board will hold a special meeting to address the issue at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 28, at the district office, located at 1000 N. Eighth Ave.
