Snowflake Piranhas Host Swim Meet

The first youth summer swim meet ever held in Snowflake took place July 12. It was supported by 136 swimmers between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age. Teams in attendance were from Snowflake, Holbrook, Show Low, Round Valley, St. Johns and Winslow. The Snowflake Pool was packed with the swimmers and their families.
    The swim season started in St. Johns June 14. Meets were held in Winslow on June 21, in Show Low on June 28, in Snowflake on July 12, in Holbrook on July 17 and in Round Valley on July19. Finals will be held on Saturday, July 26, in Holbrook.
    Swimmers compete in the following races: short and long free style, breast stroke, back stroke, butterfly stroke and IM, consisting of one 25 meter length of fly, back, breast and freestyle.
    The Snowflake team has had a very successful year. All of the swimmers have improved in their techniques and times. They are so excited to have lane lines and backstroke flags, allowing their pool to host a meet this year. They offered their special thanks to Snowflake Parks and Recreation Director Don Camacho, Kelly Mortensen and the Snowflake Pool staff. Teaching the team strokes and techniques for the summer season were Vicki Kartchner, Kirsten Gviden, Jens Nielson and Cindy Pearce.
    Team members included 6 to 8 year olds Mary Margaret Pearce, Ethan Decker, Timothy Caldwell, Rand Ritz and Dallin Crosby; 9 and 10 year olds Colton DeSpain, Kylie Peck, Karsen Decker, Mary Ritz, Payge Pearce, Tanner Crosby, Kirill Velat, Daylon Flake, Parker Nielson, Luke Craun, Kendal Kay, Vashtia Caldwell, Annika Decker, Cole Mortensen and Bailey Standerfer; 11 and 12 year olds Calla Reed, Riley Kelley, Sam Westfall, Amanda Lara, Alyssa Porras, Stephanie Bonham, Kaden Davis, Logan Craun, Kegan Kay, Valon Standerfer, Nakita Velat, Kayla Holguin and Chris Holguin; and 13 to 16 year olds Jens Nielson, Maddie Nielson, Hanna Caldwell, Caitlin DeSpain, Alexandrea Guffey, Katlyn Christensen, Ty Craun, Spencer Davis, Alex Porras and Camille Kartchner.
    The Snowflake Piranha Swim Team will conclude its season on July 30, but looks forward to many more seasons of swimming and fun.

The Snowflake Piranha Swim Team hosted the first youth summer swim meet ever held in Snowflake July 12. The event drew 136 swimmers and their families from Snowflake, Holbrook, Show Low, Round Valley, St. Johns and Winslow, packing the facility.
