Changes In Four Polling Places Are Approved By County Board

    Elections Director Lisa McKee received approval from the Navajo County Board of Supervisors last week for four polling place changes for the upcoming elections.
    The Sun Valley location will be changed from the Indian school dormitory to the Sun Valley Fire Station due to construction being completed at the school.
    Winslow Precinct No. 4 will be moved from Jefferson Elementary School to the LDS Church cultural hall, which is located just around the corner from the school at 205 Lee St. This change is also due to construction.    
    The Pinetop/Lakeside Precinct No. 1 location will be changed from the First Baptist Church fellowship hall to the Life Center located next door to the church at 1963 E. White Mountain Blvd.
    The Heber/Overgaard location is going to be moved from Capps Elementary School to the new Mogollon County Complex, which is eight miles from the other location, but will be a more secure site.
    McKee stated that this information would also be included on the sample ballots that will be mailed to county residents prior to the elections.
    In other action July 15, the board:
    * Approved the fiscal year 2009 Victims’ Rights Programs award agreement in the amount of $18,800 provided by the Office of the Attorney General to the Sheriff’s Department in order to offset the cost of an office support specialist.
    * Approved a disclosure to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services related to pre scri ption drug coverage for Medicare Part D eligible individuals.
    * Approved an amendment to a professional services contract with Ritoch-Powell and Associates for the design of Lone Pine Dam Bridge between State Routes 260 and 77 in Show Low in the amount of $36,492.
    * Approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Department of Revenue for final limited term Department of Revenue Data processing services in the amount of $5,089. This service will remain in place until the new parcel program can be fully implemented by the Assessor’s Office.
    * Approved a correction of membership representation of the Workforce Investment Board, with  Michael Zimmerman to be the Apache County Community Based Organization/Business representative and Roxanne Dean to be moved from Navajo County representative, Urban Native Americans Program, to Navajo County representative, Phoenix Job Corps.
    * Approved an agreement with LandAmerica Transnation Title to perform title searches on the parcels to be deeded to the State of Arizona this year for a total cost of $1,190.
    * Approved an amendment to the contract for Tobacco Education and Prevention with the Arizona Department of Health Services for July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009, in the amount of $139,000.
    * Authorized the Finance Department to solicit a request for qualifications for the design-build of the health department building that will be located at the newly acquired property on Ninth Place in Show Low.
    * Approved co-sponsorship and financial support in the amount of $500 for the second annual North-eastern Arizona Anti-Drug Summit.    
    * Authorized the match of $4,301 in funds to the Juvenile Probation Department so it may receive a Family Counseling Grant from the Administrative Office of the Courts in the amount of $17,204, for a total of $21,505 for the 2008-09 fiscal year.    
    * Approved an award of contract monies to a qualified supplier of global positioning systems (GPS) in order to provide accurate locations of Sheriff’s Office vehicles. The Sheriff’s Office expects to have grant funds available that were approved by the board May 20 in the amount of $19,1894 available to install the system in 61 patrol vehicles and four tower sites. This system can be expanded upon as needed.
