Snowflake Pioneer Days Slated This WeekJuly 17th, 2008
By Jennifer Roes Snowflake Pioneer Days will be celebrated Thursday through Saturday, July 17-19. The annual event will kick off on Thursday, July 17, with the annual quilt show, with demonstrations slated from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Northland Pioneer Campus. Admission is $1, which will be donated to the NPC Scholarship Fund. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be tours of Snowflake’s Historical Homes. Admission is $1 per person per home, or $12 for a family pass. The curtain will come up on “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at 7 o’clock Thursday evening at the Snowflake High School Auditorium. Admission is $4, $6 and $8. Thursday Night in the Park will begin at 7:30 at the band shell in Pioneer Park, with entertainment provided by the Reed Family Band. Bring a chair or blanket. There is no admission charge. On Friday, July 18, Eurofresh will host the Pioneer Days Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. at the Snowflake Golf Course. The entry fee is $40 per person and 40 teams are needed. The three-person scramble includes 18 holes of golf, green fees, cart, lunch and prizes. The annual quilt show will open again from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the NPC Campus. Tours of Snowflake’s Historical Homes will start at 10 a.m. on Friday and continue until 4 p.m. An arts and craft festival presented by the Snowflake/Taylor Chamber of Commerce will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at Pioneer Park on Main Street. The festival will also include music, entertainment, food, a kids’ area and a rock climbing wall. There is no admission charge. The Snowflake Rodeo will be held at 7 o’clock Friday night at the Taylor Rodeo grounds. There will be professional and local events combined. Stock will be provided by Scott McDaniels. Admission is $5 per person, with children ages 5 and under admitted free. Also at 7 p.m., “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will be presented at the SHS Auditorium. A youth dance is planned at 9 p.m. in the Snowflake Main Street Chapel parking lot. Admission is $2. Also at 9 p.m., there will be a young single adult dance for ages 18-30 at the Pioneer Park Chapel. Ad-mission is $2. On Saturday, July 19, the celebration continues with the Pioneer Day Fun Run at 6 a.m. The event in-cludes 10K or two-mile divisions. It will start at Country Club Drive. The $10 entry fee includes a T-shirt. Kids’ foot races will be held promptly at 8 a.m. on the front lawn of the Main Street Chapel. There is no charge. The arts and crafts festival will continue from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Pioneer Park. The annual Pioneer Day Parade, which will follow the theme “Women: The Heart and Soul of Pioneering,” will begin at 9 a.m. at Seventh South and Second West, and continue up Second West to Second North. The annual quilt show will open again from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the NPC Campus. There will be a Pioneer Program at 10:30 a.m. or immediately following the parade at the Main Street LDS Chapel. The annual barbecue will start at 11 a.m. and go until 12:30 p.m. at the Snowflake Social Hall. The barbecue will be served for $5 a plate. From 12 noon until 4 p.m. there will be free swimming at the Snowflake swimming pool at First South and Third West. Tours of Snowflake’s Historical Homes will be offered again from 1 to 4 p.m. Two more performances of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” are planned Saturday, including at 2 o’clock matinee and a 7 o’clock evening showing, both at SHS. The softball tournament finals are slated at 5:30 p.m. at Snowflake City Ball Park. There will be no admission charge. The Snowflake Rodeo will be held at 7 p.m. at the Taylor Rodeo grounds. Admission is $5 per person, with ages 5 and under admitted free. In conjunction with the Snowflake rodeo there will be fireworks at Freeman Park in Taylor starting at 9 p.m. Also starting at 9 p.m. are a youth dance at the Snowflake Main Street Chapel and a young single adult dance for ages 18-30 at the Pioneer Park Chapel. Admission to each is $2. There will also be a middle single adult dance for ages 30 to 50-plus at the Temple View Chapel for donations of $2 per person. All dances require appropriate attire. This includes no tank tops or sleeveless shirts, no short skirts or shorts, no low cut clothing in the front or the back, and no crop tops with stomach showing. There will be a first aid station at the Snowflake Fire Station located at the corner of Fourth South and Fourth West, across from the town library.
